May 20 - The Iron Gate

A scene like the one above from our room last evening was enough to put us both to sleep quickly.

On our w2ay to the Iron Gate. In the early morning we passed what looked like a massive reforest project, only to see a little later that it is only about 200 feet deep, all along the shore of the river.

Barges going up, barges coming down.

Villages and towns all along the way

What appeared to be old fortifications

A dam !!!! What do we do???

We sail into the lock.

When the lock doors closed, we were lifted about 10 meters at a rate of 1 meter a minute. Astounding power of water to lift that boat at that rate

More villages and farms

Mountains in the distance

Rain on the horizon, and we are to have a BBQ on the upper deck.

We went right between the two storms.

Another power dam

Another lock. This time two sections and a lift of about 20 meters
Amazing road construction along the mountain.

Did I say mountains??

The Gorge ! Magnificent !!! Astounding !!! No more words

It's cold and time for bed.

Tomorrow we dock in Belgrade and have a tour of the city.
